Barnby Dun CC Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal 2022

Barnby Dun Cricket Club hosted 2 days of Charity matches over the Bank Holiday weekend to raise funds for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Disaster Fund.

Sunday afternoon involved round-robin games of 3 teams - teams drawn out of the hat from available players in the club with a final play off for the Honda Trophy, kindly donated by Vertu Honda Doncaster.

Women's XI Sunday morning

The first event on Sunday morning, was a BDCC Invitation Women’s game, with women players from Fishlake, Doncaster Town and Darfield, as well as Barnby Dun, taking part and making up two very competitive teams who played some fine cricket in a great spirit.

Barnby Dun CC Junior Tournament

Monday Bank Holiday dawned with threatening cloud, but an enthusiastic bunch of junior cricketers at U9, U11 and U13 levels from Barnby Dun CC and Conisbrough CC played 2 matches with combined age groups, using softball and hardball rules, between the 2 clubs. The results, hardly mattered because the young cricketers, boys and girls, really enjoyed themselves playing with skill, enthusiasm and determination. A joy to behold!

Again, the 2 teams were supported enthusiastically by friends and family, with refreshments provided by Yamas Greek street food van and the back-room Barnby Dun staff in the clubhouse.

A great day for Barnby Dun CC! A win for both teams in great style on Saturday!

BDCC 2nd XI v Hensall - a win by 114 runs! Outstanding knocks of 74 from Alan Moore and 73 from Sam Connick, plus some great bowling and 4 wickets from Gavin McCarthy in the 2nd team.

Also great batting in the 1st team v Rothwell CC - a win by 65 runs: 123 from Ben Salter and 63 no from Lewis Mallinson ensured an unbeatable total and great bowling from Joseph Dixon with 4-44 off 9 overs sealed the win.

Many thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund for supporting Barnby Dun Cricket Club

The National Lottery Community Fund has enabled the club to significantly develop our junior cricket section.  We were able to arrange several cricket holiday camps in August school holidays, facilitated by professional coaches and designed to encourage young boys and girls to participate in cricket.  These were very popular and well attended. Directly as a result of these cricket camps we have now established junior teams at U9, U11, U13 and U15 age groups.  The Community Fund grant has also enabled us to replace old equipment and procure three picnic tables to create a more welcoming environment for members of the local community to relax and enjoy watching local cricket.
In recent months we have invested in adult keep fit sessions to engage local people in exercise sessions, helping to encourage a more healthy lifestyle for the more senior members of our community.

Mental Health Mile at Glass Park, Kirk Sandall

Many thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund for supporting the Dream Mile.

The Mental Health MIle DONCASTER is about the need for connecting -  with other people, with self, with the mindfulness around health and well being, and the connection with nature.

It was created by a personal journey of a founding member having experienced the loss of a loved one.

All people are welcome to walk, jog or run. Bring friends and family, dogs and children to take part and have fun.
