The most significant event of this year has been the long awaited construction of the Pavilion, which we have not had the benefit from as yet. However, next season, we will be well prepared and will be able to enjoy the facility for many years to come. Also the annual threat of expulsion from the Pontefract League will be a distant memory and we will have some of the best facilities in the area to be proud of come inspection time next year.

On the playing front the Club continues to move forward with a thriving junior section who all enjoy their cricket and hopefully all other members do to.

It is important not to lose sight of the “spirit of the game” as was clearly demonstrated in the recent England test match series after Ian Bell’s controversial decision when the no 1 test team in the world “called him back “. This showed that even at such a high level of cricket the respect for the other team and everyone was evident and everyone was pleased to see it.

I wonder sometimes if we play too much cricket at Barnby Dun - personally I don’t think so .......... However, the team selection and organisation of teams is a big responsibility for the captains alone who also have other responsibilities at the club. I wonder if a small number of people could be involved in team selection - this could be an issue to think about over winter.
It is important to always have new ideas and to welcome new people to the club so we continue to move forward and to keep the club successful.

However, occasionally it also very important to look back and without the commitment ,hard work, time and enthusiasm of a number of people for the game and the club we would not be in the position we are today. These people have built a solid foundation which means the club will hopefully continue for another141 years !!I This has only been achieved by having local support and maintaining the ground to a high standard by people working together on the committee, constant fundraising and support from sponsors who are valued and necessary in keeping Barnby Dun Cricket Club what it is today.

I will be standing down as Chairman after the AGM. I have enjoyed my years as chairman which at times have not always been easy, but i have always tried to look at “the big picture “and to do what I felt was right for the club at the time.

I would like to offer my continued support to the new chairman and the club.

Regards
